The credential landscape remains opaque and chaotic. We found that the market holds both promise and peril – with only 1 in 3 credentials moving workers ahead compared to their peers. To address this, BGI developed a novel dataset, tools, and APIs that classifies and provides a ‘nutrition label’ for ease of use for the over one million non-degree credentials that are currently being issued. BGI has assessed the real-world outcomes of the 23,000 most commonly earned credentials as well as the issuers who delivered the specific credential. These outcomes are made available through the Credential Value Index Navigator. By connecting credential intelligence into tools, policy workflows, and public resources like the Credential Value Index, BGI is spurring greater accountability and transparency and supporting students and workers navigate to the programs that will get them where they want to go.
