Metro Detroit is at a pivotal economic moment. As public investment, technological change, and shifting industry needs reshape the region’s labor market, employers face persistent hiring challenges while workers navigate pathways that are often unclear or misaligned with opportunity.

This report identifies metro Detroit’s Jobs That Mobilize – roles that offer strong wages, accessible entry points, and clear potential for upward mobility – across two key industries: healthcare and automotive manufacturing. Using labor market data, career history analysis, and direct employer validation, the analysis highlights which jobs are most critical to employers, the skills required for success, and the pathways workers can realistically take to reach them.

Key findings show that many of metro Detroit’s highest-priority roles pay more than $70,000 annually without requiring a four-year degree, rely heavily on durable and communication skills for day-one success, and offer advancement opportunities if training and credentialing pathways are made more visible and aligned.
