Managing Director of Education Insights

Carlo Salerno is Managing Director of Education Insights at the Burning Glass Institute where he leads the Institute’s portfolio of research around the economics of postsecondary training programs.

Carlo is an education economist who over the past 22 years has built a career studying and developing solutions related to how students, colleges, and governments can improve access, completion, and affordability outcomes. He began his career as a senior higher education analyst with the U.S. Government Accountability Office and since then has gone on to co-found a boutique education analytics firm and conduct major research studies for both national financial aid and student lending advocacy organizations.

Before joining the Burning Glass Institute, Carlo was Vice President for Research at Campuslogic, where he led ed-tech research on improving the delivery of student financial aid. Prior to that, Carlo served as Vice President for Analytics at the Strada Education Network. He is routinely quoted in national and education trade media outlets and is a frequent speaker at education finance and enrollment management conferences. Carlo earned his bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University and his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University.
