Part-Time Economist
Job Title: Part-Time Economist
Location: New York, NY Remote
Organization: Burning Glass Institute
Overview
The Burning Glass Institute (BGI) is hiring several part-time economics and other social sciences PhD students. The position would be fully remote, work about 10-15 hours per week. Responsibilities would include analyzing data for client-side and internal projects (mostly relating to labor markets, skills, and education) and visualizing and explaining analysis to project managers and clients. Part-timers will work closely with our full-time researchers to understand project needs and explain analysis, while also having significant freedom to complete the work in their own way. BGI has access to unique proprietary data sets on career history profiles that part-timers will both learn to use and (after three months of working with BGI and with some baseline restrictions), will have capacity to use in their own research. These data sets are on the cutting edge of labor market data and are hard to find in other places.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis: Perform in-depth data analysis using tools such as R and/or Python and SQL to extract meaningful insights from a wide range of data sources, including cloud-hosted relational databases.
Research Coordination: Collaborate with the team of economists to design, plan, and execute research projects, ensuring the highest standards of data accuracy and analysis.
Methodology Development: Develop and refine research methodologies to address complex labor market questions.
Data Collection: Organize, manage, and understand diverse data sets related to labor market trends and workforce dynamics.
Data Visualization: Create compelling data visualizations and research summaries to communicate research findings effectively to a lay audience.
Market Knowledge: Stay informed about trends and economic research relevant to US and global labor markets, contributing valuable insights and novel research ideas to our research efforts.
Team Collaboration: Work harmoniously within a remote, team-oriented environment, contributing to the team’s knowledge base and taking initiative to provide and gather feedback.
Deadline Management: Thrive in a dynamic research environment by meeting project deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
Basic/Preferred Qualifications
